How much does a trip to Prague cost?

What it is made of
Per person, per day: accommodation €50-70 (shared double in a four-star in Nové Město), meals €25-40 (the set lunch menu in a bufet or hospoda at midday, a plate and a beer outside the centre in the evening), transport €2-6 (timed PID tickets: 39 CZK for 30 minutes, 150 CZK for the day), admissions €5-25 depending on the day. The two heavy tickets — Castle 450 CZK (~€18.50, valid 2 days) and Jewish Museum 600 CZK (~€24.50, valid 3 opening days) — each weigh on their own day, but Vyšehrad, Letná, Nový Svět, the Castle courtyards and almost all of day four cost nothing. Total €85-125: inside the comfort band with room to spare, because comfort in Prague costs less than it does further west.
Where to stay, and what it costs
- Four-star hotel in Nové Město, between the top of Václavské náměstí and Muzeum station — double €95-140 a night: metro A and C downstairs, the Old Town a quarter of an hour on foot and far more honest prices than inside Staré Město
- Apartment or guesthouse in Vinohrady or Karlín — €70-110 a night: genuine residential neighbourhoods, local cafés and hospody on your doorstep, ten minutes by tram from the centre
